Dr. Bluestein is on the board of commissioners for the South
Carolina School for The Deaf and The Blind. An ophthalmologist
operating her own practice in Charleston, she obtained her bachelor's
degree from Tulane University and her master's degree from The Citadel.
After raising a family, she went back to the Medical University
of South Carolina to earn her medical degree in 1990. She has received
many honors for her medical research and been published in numerous
medical journals.

Charleston eye surgeon Ettaleah Bluestein, MD has been an innovator
in laser
vision correction since 1994, when she had access to a third
generation Excimer laser prior to actual FDA approval. In 1996,
she was invited to present her research in the innovator's session
of the American Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons
annual meeting as the recipient of an award for an outstanding research
paper. She was also awarded a fellowship to attend and present her
research on laser vision correction to the association for research
in vision and ophthalmology.
While a resident in ophthalmology, she was given an award for outstanding
research by the Storm Eye Institute of the Medical University of
South Carolina.
Dr. Bluestein completed her ophthalmology residency at the Storm
Eye Institute of the Medical University of South Carolina. She obtained
additional training in LASIK under Dr. Steven Slade and Dr. Charles
Casebeer in Canada and with Dr. Jesus Vidauri in Monterey, Mexico.
Dr. Bluestein completed medical school and an internship at the
Medical University of South Carolina. Today she is Board Certified
by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has published over 20
scientific papers on clinically relevant topics in laser vision
correction, cataract surgery and other topics in ophthalmology.
She has presented her research nationally and internationally.
Dr. Bluestein is a resident of Charleston and Sullivan's Island
where she is active in community activities. She is on the board
of directors of the Association for the Blind. She was instrumental
in establishing an outreach program for eye care called "See
for MILES" through our Lady of Mercy on Johns Island, South
Carolina. She is an active supporter of the College of Charleston
Cougar Club and enjoys painting in abstract oil.
Dr. Bluestein has excellent results with the LASIK
procedure and takes a personal interest in and gives attention
to each patient.
